Convexastrea Orbigny, 1849: 9 is a nomen vanum (unavailable and invalid).

Based on the type species from the Carnian, Astrea regularis Klipstein, 1843: 293, pl. 20: 1, never sufficiently diagnosed or illustrated; type specimen from unknown locality in the Dolomites; lost. Genus name applied to Jurassic corals in the 19th and 20th century; discussed by Alloiteau 1947, 1948 (denying the taxonomical value of the genus), and Roniewicz 1976; recently, the majority of Jurassic species originally determined as Convexastrea, have been transmitted to Solenocoenia Roniewicz et Gill, 1976.
