Type Locality: Middle Miocene: Italy

Type lost (Chevalier, 1961). Type species well described by Chevalier (1961).

Diagnosis

Corallum solitary, discoidal to patellate, free (sometimes with a scar of previous attachment at center of base); septothecate, granular or ridged costae present; pali on all septal cycles, the axial edges of the P3 joining the P2 near the columella in a characteristic deltoid formation; columella papillose.

Remarks

About a dozen fossil species and 25 Recent species. It is one of the more commonly collected of the deep-sea genera.
