Type species best described by Cairns (1979). Two additional syntypes at MCZ 5607.
Classification
Diagnosis
Corallum solitary, trochoid, attached; theca costate and finely granular; septa normally arranged, usually only 3 cycles; columella rudimentary or absent; azooxanthellate.
Comparisons
Differs from Poutalopsammia in having a costate, granular theca.
Remarks
This genus and family were monographed by Cairns (2001), which included a phylogenetic analysis based on morphology. Genus monotypic.
