Type Locality: Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) of Maxey-sur-Vaize, Saint-Mihiel, and Verdun (France)



Phaceloid rhipidogyrid.


Phaceloid corallum with corallites cylindrical to elliptical in section. Strong costae proximally covered by a tectura more or less developed according to species. Intracalicular increase, Radial elements compact, mostly free, occasionally linked at the columella, bicuneiform mostly straight, or slightly curved, very unequal in length and thickness. Some septa lonsdaleoid or apophysal. Distal edge smooth, inner edge with flabelliform auriculae, lateral faces with sharp granules, no palus. Microstructure Rhipidogyrid. Radial symmetry difficult to decipher, bilateral symmetry marked by elongation of the corallite, slight curvature of septa and lamellar columella. Endotheca present, Synapticulae absent, wall probably paraseptothecal.


Some morphological transitions can be considered with solitary forms – Rhipidogyra – and massive meandroid forms – Psammogyra
