Nomenclaturally, Beauvais 1975 proposed a re-assignation to Rhipidogyra but, probably, she did not realized that the binoma R. elegans was already pre-occupied. In 1980 Ljuljeva and Permjakov proposed a synonymy between the two homonyms. In addition, from a taxonomic point of view, Koby described a dendroid coral close of Aplosmilia but without columella, not a solitary flabelloid corallum, then we keep the genus disctinct.
Dendroid corallum probably composed of few branches. Bell shaped corallites, elliptical or circular in section, not deep. Radial elements are thick, unequal, exsert, compact costosepta. Ornamentation of coarse and sharp granules. Strong costae smoothed in proximal direction (probably by a granulated tectura). Costosepta organised in radial symmetry marked by torsion of septa. Thick parathecal wall. Columella absent or deep and elongate. Endotheca made of dissepiment common near the periphery. Synapticule absent.
