Type Species

Octocoenia lugdunensis d'Orbigny 1850, p. 222; Monotypy

Type Specimen: Lectotype; MNHN B09537; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Saint Fortunat (a hamlet localized at Limonest, near Lyon, France) Sinemurian sensu d’Orbigny (probably Hettangian).

The lectotype was designated (CINZ art.74.5 : designation of a lectotype before 2000) and figured by Thévenin (A.) in Cottreau, 1907 p. 35 pl. 10 fig. 23-24. A thin section is available.

Classification

Description

Massive plocoid corallum. Costate peritheca with confluent costae. Wall in relief, calicular platform steeply sloping down (subvertical) on the inner side of the wall. Circular corallites. Holotheca not observed. Radial elements are compact straight free costosepta, septal part attenuated. Regular teeth on inner edge of septa. Octameral symmetry Elliptical calicular pit. Dissepiments in peritheca are observed in longitudinal section. Endotheca not observed. Paraseptothecal wall.
