Classification

Diagnosis

Colonial, hydnophoroid to hydnophoro-meandroid. Gemmation intracalicinal. Collines are wide and generally short. Corallites have unclear centres and are arranged in meandroid to circumoral series. Columellar structures unclear. Endothecal dissepiments numerous, vesicular. Wall septothecal.

Remarks

The first description by Turnšek (1976, in Turnšek and Buser, 1976) was later revised by Sikharulidze (1985). According to Kuzmicheva and Aliev (1988) the specimens described as Columellogyra by Turnšek (1976, in Turnšek and Buser, 1976) belong to the genus Columnogyra L. Beauvais, 1976 which is characterized by cerioid polyps and a lamellar columella. However, as pointed out by Sikharulidze (1985) the structures thought to be columellar images actually represent elevated (hydnophoroid) septothecal walls of calicinal series.
