Classification

Remarks

According to Alloiteau (1957, p. 215-216), his newly created genus Saltastraea was characterized by structures that were comparable to the ones in Claustastrea d'Orbigny, Complexastrea d'Orbigny, and Paleastraea Kuehn. However, the documentation of the type material regarding e.g. the type of septal granulation; thamnasterioid polyp integration; no wall between corallites; presence of synapticulae; thick dissepiments, suggest a close resemblance to forms of the family Thamnasteriidae, with close affinities to the genus Corbariastraea Alloiteau. Therefore, their synonmy is suggested.

Distribution
