Remarks
In describing the taxon Trochosmilia cenomana, de Fromentel (1863, p. 261) created a junior homonym of the form Trochosmilia cenomana Milne Edwards and Haime, 1849, vol. 4(1), p. 243. While the form created by Milne Edwards and Haime seems to be closely related to Acrosmilia, the taxon described by de Fromentel was used by Alloiteau twice to create 2 new and different genera: Plesioparasmilia Alloiteau, 1952, and Parasmiliopsis Alloiteau, 1957 (also see Remarks under Parasmiliopsis Alloiteau, 1957). Because the only documentation of the genus Plesioparasmilia Alloiteau, 1952, lacks necessary information regarding septal arrangement, axial structures, etc., it is unrecognizable.
