Ovalastreopsis

The genus name is originally spelled Ovalastreopsis but the genus name of the type species was originally spelled Ovalastraeopsis

Type Locality: Bathonian-Callovian of Soaravikely (Madagascar)

Two thin sections were made in the holotype and two in the paratype J08178.

Description

Massive plocoid corallum. Intracalicular increase. Corallite circular, subpolygonal or lobate, calices superficial, weakly infundibuliform. Radial elements are compact, often curved, mostly anastomosed in a contratingent way, some major septa are free. Distal edge with sharp subregular big pyramidal or roof-shaped teeth. Lateral faces with short menianae with rims not directed upward and not very regularly alternating. Septa wider than intersepta. Endotheca of vesicular dissepiments. Central zone with a fossa or a very weak parietal columella. The peritheca is not depressed. Peritheca and walls badly preserved on the holotype; the paratype shows that laminar layers fill the intersepta near the wall. Synapticules possibly present.

Remarks

Alloiteau 1958 described numerous synapticules. It is possible but the orientation of the sections does not allow a certain distinction of this structure from dissepiments. His description of septal ornamentation and of the mural region are not convincing. One nominal species
