terminal increase mode

Summary

increase that takes place at the ends of corallite series (e.g. at the ends of meandroid valleys, or at ends of ranks of halysitoid corals). It is not a mode of increase as such, but describes the area of a corallite series in which new corallites appear, independently of the mode of the increase. Simultaneous addition of two new terminal corallites leads to branching of series (in transverse view). Increase of corallite series can also take place laterally, also leading to branching of series. See also Forking.
