indefinite corallite system

Summary

a visually identifiable group of corallites not enclosed by complete thecal structure, or only partially enclosed by a thecal structure. Groups are iterated within a single corallum. Hence in transverse view or section, indefinite systems lack any enclosing, structural boundaries, and are recognized only by their clustered arrangement, or (if the calicular surface is visible) by enclosing surficial collines. See also Indefinite centre, Definite corallite system.
