definite corallite system
Summary
a visually identifiable group of corallites enclosed by a single complete thecal structure. Groups are iterated within a single corallum. Hence in transverse view or section, definite systems are defined by a clear, enclosing structural (not surficial) boundaries. Member corallites may be indefinite (e.g. in the individual polycentric meanders (valleys) of meandroid corals, or definite (e.g. in a grouped arrangement of fasciculate branches).
