meandroid calical arrangement

Summary

polycentric serial arrangement of more or less distinct corallites enclosed by a wall structure. Valleys are the calicular expression of meandroid corallite systems ('meanders'). Colonies may consist of a single meandroid system (mono-meandroid), or many systems. Systems may be relatively straight, sinuous, sometimes branching or forking, or in rings and loops. In cerio-meandroid systems, the enclosing wall is shared with neighbouring systems (cf. cerioid). In ploco-meandroid systems, the enclosing walls are distinct for each system, and separated by coenosteum (cf. plocoid). In flabello-meandroid systems, the systems are free from structural contact with neighbouring systems (cf. flabelloid, fasciculate). See also Hydnophoroid.
