flabello-meandroid calical arrangement

Summary

shape and organization of colonial coralla in which corallite centres are arranged serially, with each polycentric series enclosed by a single thecal structure. The thecal structure is therefore elongated in transverse section (laterally lenticular to elliptical to flattened, or sinuous, and commonly forked or branched). Such corals may consist of a single system (and, if the series is very short, appear superfically flabelloid), or consist of many systems in fasciculate arrangement. Compare Flabelloid.
