cerioid calical arrangement
Summary
corallite arrangement in which adjacent corallites are contiguous without either free space or coenosteum between them. In most, if not all cerioid Scleractinia, walls are common between adjacent corallites. In most, if not all cerioid Rugosa and Tabulata, walls are 'back-to-back' structures in which each adjacent coral retains its own wall enclosed in epitheca. Epitheca is often directly visible when cerioid corallites are broken apart, and is visible in transverse section as a dark median line within the compound wall structure.
