holotheca

Summary

like epitheca (in default sense) but enclosing the entire coralla other than calicular surfaces of many colonial corals. Holotheca consists of one or a combination of the same possible elements as corallite walls. In many scleractinian coralla it is partially present only as 'epithecal shreds'.
