Type Specimen: Neotype; GBA 4462; Verified; Dry Preserved
Type Locality: St. Cassian, Dolomites, Italy, Carnian
The neotype was chosen by Cuif 1974 (issued 1975): 360 from among four original specimens of Muenster, Volz and Laube, preserved. The most similar to the Klipstein illustration is the Laube specimen of Thecosmilia hoernesi Laube, considered to be the synonym of Montlivaltia zieteni Klipstein.
Classification
Diagnosis
Phaceloid coralla with intracalicular increase producing unequal or equal corallites lacking any lamellar linkages between centers; axial fossa narrow, short and empty; septal sides covered with granules; distal margin zig-zag; endotheca dissepimental; wall epithecal.
Remarks
In Europe, three species are known in the Carnian and one species in the Rhaetian. Two Late Triassic species from China were described as Margarosmilia.
