Lepidophylliopsis
Beauvais and Stump, 1976, p. 292
The type specimen of the type-species is badly preserved and ranges in the possible variability of a Thecosmilia, the most common genus in the Nattheimer Schichten. Then we put Lepidophylliopsis in synonymy with Thecosmilia with some doubts.
Type Species
Lithodendron longimanum Quenstedt, 1880, p. 698, pl. 170 fig. 17; Original Designation
Type Specimen: Lectotype; GPIT AN/1147; Verified; Dry Preserved
Type Locality: Kimmeridgian (Upper Jurassic) from Nattheim (Germany)
The type-specimen is badly silicified and it is difficult to characterise a genus. Beauvais and Stump designated a lectotype (by abusive designation of a holotype) in the Quenstedt collection. They created the new genus without seeing the type material and they attributed to stylophyllids a coral without costae, obviously different of the type specimen, with the strange name of "Lepidophylliopsis cf longimana".
Description
Phaceloid corallum with subcylindrical corallites and elongated in outline when they increase by intracalicinal gemmation. Epitheca rare distributed in some rings, costae subequal and dentate. Radial elements compact costosepta, free or anastomosed (?) attenuated to bicuneiform and curved. Distal and inner edge but also lateral faces cannot be observed, No palis observed. Microstructure unknown. The radial symmetry cannot be assessed, bilateral symmetry marked by curvature of septa. Endotheca made of vesicular dissepiments. The axial zone cannot be observed. Synapticulae not observed. Parathecal wall.
Remarks
One nominal species
