Kobymeandra

Alloiteau, 1953, p. 885

Kobymeandra Alloiteau, 1953, p. 885 is a junior synonym (available and invalid), see Microphyllia Orbigny, 1849: 8.

Alloiteau referred to Latimeandra corrugata Edwards and Haime in Koby non Michelin and considered that the species created by Michelin belonged to another genus Edwardsoseris(see Lathuilière 1987 for the detailed nomenclatural history). He should be considered as the author of Kobymeandra corrugata Alloiteau and the type specimen is Latimaeandra corrugata "Edwards and Haime" in Koby (pl. 67 fig.1, and non pl. 74 fig. 6 according to a footnote in Alloiteau 1953). I used the thin section made by Alloiteau, which is probably the basis of his diagnosis. I used also Koby’s specimens preserved in the Museum in Basel. Alloiteau referred to the specimen figured by Koby pl. 67 fig. 1. He discarded the specimen pl. 74 fig. 6 but said nothing about the third one (pl. 66 fig. 2), which has been observed too.

Type Species

Kobymeandra corrugata footnote in Alloiteau 1953; Original Designation

Type Locality: Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) of Caquerelle, St Ursanne, Tarèche (Switzerland)

Classification

Description

From the thin section depicted by Alloiteau (1953). Massive meandroid with open radial valleys. Septa of valleys present. Collines rather tectiform, without ambulacrum. Radial elements confluent or not confluent on collines. Lower surface covered with thin equal costae. Radial elements subcompact, free or anastomosed straight, curved or bent. Distal edge moniliform but not very regularly dentate, inner edge dentate by pennular rims, lateral faces with pennular ornamentation dipping toward the valley, not very regular in alternation. Orientation of pennular rims is upward but not very systematically. No pali. Microstructure not preserved. Hexameral symmetry not deciphered, bilateral symmetry marked by curvature of septa elongation of fossa and septa of valleys. Endotheca with tabuloid or wide vesicular dissepiments dipping toward the valleys, columella absent or weak parietal, synapticulae present, wall present on the collines, at least partly septothecal in nature. From the Koby’s specimen pl. 66 fig. 2 orig n° 717 also numbered 4581 preserved in Basel. Massive meandroid with open radial valleys. Septa of valleys present. Tectiform collines, without ambulacrum. Radial elements confluent or not confluent on collines. Lower surface covered with thin equal costae. Radial elements subcompact, free or anastomosed straight, curved or bent. Distal edge moniliform but not very regularly dentate, lateral faces with continuous or discontinuous menianae, dipping toward the valley. No pali. Microstructure not observed. Hexameral symmetry not deciphered, bilateral symmetry marked by curvature of septa elongation of fossa and septa of valleys. Endotheca not observed, parietal columella without relief, synapticulae present, wall present on the collines, but badly preserved. From the Koby’s specimen pl. 67 fig. 1 orig n° 718 – also numbered 4582 preserved in Basel. Massive meandroid with open radial valleys. Septa of valleys present. Tectiform collines, without ambulacrum. Radial elements confluent or not confluent on collines. Lower surface covered with thin equal costae. Radial elements subcompact, free or anastomosed straight, curved or bent. Distal edge and lateral faces difficult to observe, pennules present. No pali. Microstructure not observed. Hexameral symmetry not deciphered, bilateral symmetry marked by curvature of septa elongation of fossa and septa of valleys. Endotheca not observed, a small fossa or a weak parietal columella without relief, synapticulae present, wall of an unknown nature present on the collines.
