Classification

Remarks

In contrast to the original description given by Reig Oriol (1997, p. 24), the type material of Ilerdosmilia seems to be characterized by the occurrence of synapticulae and septa that are arranged according to the Pourtales plan. In addition to other characters like spongy columella and very elongate corallum, the genus Ilerdosmilia closely corresponds to Balanophyllia. Therefore, their synonmy is suggested.

Distribution

  • Southern Europe; Late Cretaceous
