Type Species

Ilerdogyra calzadai Reig Oriol, 1989, p. 17, pl. 1, figs. 5-6, pl. 5, fig. 3.; Original Designation Reig Oriol, 1989, p. 16

Type Specimen: Holotype; ; Not Traced; Unknown

Type Locality: Campanian of Spain (Torallola).

The holotype of the type species is housed at MGSB (Barcelona) under 47189.

Remarks

Re-examination of the holotype of Ilerdogyra calzadai Reig Oriol, 1989, by Baron-Szabo in 2005 revealed that it showed all characteristics of Platygyra, and was therefore included in the group of Lazarus taxa (Baron-Szabo, 2008, p. 12). Loeser (2016, p. 391-392, Fig. 12a) stated that the genus Ilerdogyra had lonsdaleoid septa. However, because alleged lonsdaleoid septa only appear in oblique views of the colony, the genus Ilerdogyra is considered to lack these structures.
