Diagnosis
Solitary, ceratoid coral differing from all known corals by multiple, centripetal and usually alternating bufurcations of lower-order septa in later ontogeny. Septal microstructure trabecular. Endotheca dissepimental. Wall septothecal- epithecal.
Description
The unusual mode of increase of septal apparatus in the form of bunches called septal brooms, in the type species described and discussed in Stolarski et al. 2004. Occurrrence of another species has been described from the Ladinian of the South Eastern Pamirs in Melnikova and Roniewicz 2007.
Comparisons
The coral externally similar to Montlivaltia, but having noting in common with this genus neither in corallite architecture nor in microstructure.
Remarks
The coral has been assigned to an informal category of the scleractiniamorphs.
