Type Species
Favitopsis harrensis Alloiteau 1955 p. 675, pl. 28 fig. 3-8; Monotypy
Type Specimen: Holotype; MNHN ?; Lost; Unknown
Type Locality: Upper Jurassic of North from El Harre (Yemen)
Description
Massive cerioid corallum with polygonal elongated irregular and excentric corallites. Intracalicular increase. No holotheca. Radial elements are generally free occasionally joined by their inner edge, compact and unequal. Distal edge with subequal small teeth. Radial and marked bilateral symmetry. Endotheca made of thin dissepiments extended over the whole length of interseptal chambers and joining the axial cavity, columella parietal and rudimentary to absent, wall parathecal.
Comparisons
Alloiteau distinguished Favitopsis from Favia by the cerioid colonial structure, the distal edge of septa, the poor development of the axial organ and the subtabulate endotheca. He distinguished his new genus from Favites by the distal edge of septa and the subtabulate endotheca. He finally compared to Isastrea whose the endotheca is vesiculose and the septal structure of montlivaltid type.
Remarks
One nominal species and one specimen published. Alloiteau evoked an unpublished Bathonian-Callovian specimen from Jeham (Egypt).
