Ebrayia

Ferry, 1870, p. 190

Type Species

Favia fromenteli Ferry 1861, p. 23; Monotypy

Type Specimen: Syntype; MNHN A32292; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Bajocian (Middle Jurassic) from Milly (Saône-et-Loire, France)

The syntypes consist in 3 silicified specimens from Milly figured here. Alloiteau (1957) abusively designated a "holotype" (MNHN M03097 also figured here) from Pierreclos (and not Milly !) and was unfortunately followed by Lathuilière (2000) who mentioned a "lectotype" as a unique available specimen in which the only thin sections available were made. Since 2000, syntypes and other specimens were found in the MNHN collections. Fortunately they do not change significantly our view on this genus.

Description

Massive plocoid subcerioid corallum with a very narrow peritheca. Intra and intercalicinal increase. No holotheca, but equal granulated costae. Corallite polygonal. Radial elements compact costo-septa, free or anastomosed straight to curved, rather constant in thickness or attenuated. Costae often confluent. Distal edge with equal regular teeth, lateral faces are covered with ornamentation in the pennular style with a low relief, with pennular rims turned upward and without clear alternation from a septum to the neighbouring one. Some ghosts of microstructure with a mid septal white line capable of dichotomy. No pali. Hexameral symmetry possible in regular calices, bilateral symmetry common characterised by the curvature of septa. Endotheca present, columella often styliform sometimes parietal, synapticules present, the wall could be a synapticulotheca (or a paratheca).

Remarks

Two nominal species were recorded but Ebrayia dightonthomasi does not belong to Ebrayia.

Distribution
