Simple discoid coral. Upper face convex with exsert radial elements. Lower face covered with a striated and folded wall of endothecal origin. Elliptical central fossa with a small parietal columella. Radial elements are compact costo-septa. Distal and outer edge with sharp, equal and regularly spaced teeth. Lateral faces are ornamented with carinae perpendicular to the distal edge. Radial hexameral symmetry. Endotheca made of wide, distally arched dissepiments occupying almost all the length of interseptal chambers but not crossing the axial cavity. No synapticule.

Remarks

Two nominal species known, in Jurassic only.

Distribution

  • Western Europe; Middle Jurassic
  • South America; Middle Jurassic
A citation with question mark of C. canadiensis is available from Aalenian of Canada (Beauvais 1982) C. delabechei from Iran (Pandey and Fürsich 2003) is not included because of their clear lamellar columella. Many old citations of the type species under the name Montlivaltia remain to be revised.
