Crinopora

Orbigny, 1849

Crinopora Orbigny, 1849 is a nomen dubium (unavailable).

D'Orbigny used the form Alveolites massiliensis Michelin from the Late Cretaceous of France to create the genus Crinopora. Because 1) Alveolites represents a non-scleractinian (=tabulate Paleozoic group), 2) d'Orbigny's placing of his new genus is unclear (it could be a heterocoeniid scleractinian or a helioporid octocoral), and 3) type material has been unavailable for study, the taxonomic position of this taxon is unrecognizable.
