Description
Massive Ploco-meandroid corallum with cylindrical corallites No true epitheca but some rugae made by exotheca that covers subequal costae at some growth stages of the colony. Corallites rarely isolated but generally in intracalicinal increase with lamellar linkage. Peritheca with confluent to non confluent costae, a shallow depression and sometimes a small sulcus. Radial elements are compact free bicuneiform costosepta, straight to curved. Distal edge with rhomboidal equal regular teeth, inner edge finely dentate, lateral faces with numerous fine acute granules arranged or not in carinae. No palis. Montlivaltid microstructure. Hexameral symmetry not deciphered , bilateral symmetry marked by curvature of septa and elongation of fossa . Endotheca made of vesicular dissepiments , axial zone with a well marked fossa, synapticulae absent. No structural wall but a paratheca.
Remarks
Note that the initial description of the genus made with help of polish material mentions non confluent to subconflent costae, but the holotype shows confluent costae. The initial description mentions also tabulae but the section of the topotype n°67661 shows dissepiments. Errenst(1990) and Turnsek (1997) kept the type-species in the genus Complexastrea. Four Jurassic nominal species and one Cretaceous
