Cerioheterastraea
Cuif, 1976:127
Type Species
Cerioheterastraea cerioidea Cuif, 1976:127; Monotypy Cuif, 1976:127
Type Specimen: Holotype; MNHN ; Not Traced; Dry Preserved
Type Locality: Valley Alakir Cay, Taurus Mountains, Anatolia, Turkey. Early Norian, Late Triassic
Diagnosis
Cerioid, calices prismatic. Endotheca dissepimental. Increase by division with dividing wall initiated by septa. The wall with a mid-line, its stereome composed of fascicles of fibres. Radial elements originating from particular structural elements of the wall (thecal fascicles). Peripheral part of the radial element, named intermediate zone, shows a row of small centers at the middle. The remainder part, or septal zone, divided into segments each having mid-septal line and lateral fibres poorly differentiated into the fascicles.
Description
Microstructure of the type species described and figured in Cuif 1976:129,text-fig.18, pl.14,fig.1,2.
Comparisons
The genus is incomparable in its fibrous microstructure of septa and wall to other cerioid corals.
Remarks
Only one species is known.
