Considered as a subgenus by Cairns (1989). Two syntypes, but one lost.
Like the nominate subgenus, but having only four cycles of septa
Contains the record of the deepest living scleractinian coral species at 6328 m (Keller, 1974). Seventeen species, including 3 fossil species (Cairns, 1989, 1999).
