Turbinoseris Duncan, 1870, p. 42 is a junior synonym (available and invalid), see Acrosmilia Orbigny, 1849, vol. 2, p. 203.

Type Species

Type Specimen: Holotype; ; Not Traced; Unknown

Type Locality: Lower Aptian of England (Lower Greensand, Isle of Whight).

Classification

Remarks

Studies by Tomes (1885, p. 551) revealed that the type species of Duncan's genus Turbinoseris closely corresponded to Leptophylla, the latter of which is seen as a junior synonym of Acrosmilia by this author. In addition, Tomes realized that the species name 'de-Fromenteli' had been in use and was, therefore, unavailable. For that reason, Tomes created the species name anglica (=Leptophyllia anglica). Later, Tomes (1899, p. 306) revised his decision in that he conlcuded that Duncan's taxon was synonymous with Leptophyllia clavata, the type species of Leptophylllia.
