Type Species

Triphyllocoenia excavata Orbigny 1849, p.7; Original Designation Orbigny, 1849: 7

Type Specimen: Lectotype; MNHN B24232; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Ancelle, Hautes-Alpes, France (Priabonian, Eocene)

The lectotype belongs in the genus Alveopora Blainville 1830. It is a deformed poorly preserved, ramose branch. Colony is cerioid, septa are lacking or at most found as weak ridges at the corallite wall; no axial structure seen; there are large pores in the corallite walls near the colony surface.
