Stuoresimorpha

Roniewicz, 1989: 89

Type Species

Isastraea norica Frech, 1890: 25, pl. 6, fig. 7,8.; Monotypy Roniewicz, 1989: 89

Type Specimen: Neotype; NHMW 1959/361/1; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Kesselwand-Rohrmoos , Gosaukamm region, Northern Calcareous Alps. Zlambach Beds, Rhaetian, Late Triassic

The neotype was chosen by Roniewicz 1989:89,pl.25,fig.4-6, pl.27,fig.2. Specimens from the type locality are housed in the NHMW collection with thin sections.

Classification

Diagnosis

Cerio-menadroid, series closed. Budding intracalicular with indirect linkages. Septal ornamentation of short, axiferous menianes. Wall structure varies in ontogeny from septothecal to septo-synapticulothecal. Endotheca vesicular.

Description

First microstructural characteristics of the type species was given by Cuif 1976:116, text-fig.14, pl.11,fig.7,8. Morphology and microstructure of the neotype and other specimens were described in Roniewicz 1989 based on numerous specimens from the Gosaukamm region.

Comparisons

In septal structure and micromorphology, endotheca and wall, the genus resembles Alpinophyllia, from which it differs in the intracalicular increase with indirect connection between the centers, and formation of closed and very irregular in shape calicular series.

Remarks

One species.

Distribution

  • Southern Europe; Late Triassic
Northern Calcareous Alps, Rhaetian.
