Type Locality: Recent: off Spain, 1190-2003 m

The type species is well described by Cairns (1979) and Zibrowius (1980).

Classification

Diagnosis

Corallum colonial, either dendroid or subphaceloid achieved by equal intracalicular budding; coenosteum granular with C1 sometimes present; pali absent; columella inconspicuous; tabular endothecal dissepiments present.

Remarks

Monotypic. This is one of a dozen cosmopolitan Recent species, and also one of the deep-water framework building corals, forming deep reefs in the North Atlantic.
