Sideroseris Beauvais, 1964, p. 227 is a junior homonym (unavailable), see Sideroseris Wells, 1945 (the senior homonym).

Sideroseris Beauvais 1964 is probably also a junior synonym of Microphyllia

Type Species

Sideroseris ransoni Beauvais 1964, p. 227, pl. 29 fig. 7, pl. 34, fig. 4; Original Designation

Type Specimen: Holotype; MNHN M00068; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) from Saint Mihiel (Meuse, France)

Classification

Description

Massive meandroid corallum with sinuous valleys with septa of valleys, rather tholiform collines with an occasional small sulcus. Centers distinct. Sometimes several in width of a valley. Lower surface with costae and incomplete holotheca. Radial elements probably compact or subcompact, free or anastomosed, straight to curved, subequal and of a rather constant thickness. Radial element confluent subconfluent or non confluent. Distal edge moniliform, inner edge often attenuated, lateral faces typically pennular with menianae, no pali. Microstructure not known. Hexameral symmetry cannot be deciphered, bilateral symmetry by elongation of valleys and torsion of septa. Endotheca not observed , columella weak and parietal, synapticulae probably present, wall on collines only, of an unknown nature.

Remarks

Making a genus because of the confluence of septa (dominant but not exclusive) and their weak anastomosis (difficult to observe without good sections) results from an overinterpretation of observations. One nominal species, one citation, one specimen.

Distribution

  • Western Europe; Late Jurassic
