Type Species

Sclerosmilia rugosa Koby, 1888, p. 426, pl. 113 fig. 8-12; Subsequent Designation Wells, 1936, p.129

Type Specimen: Lectotype; NMB D 3930; Verified; Dry Preserved

Type Locality: Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic), La Caquerelle, Tarèche and St Ursanne (Switzerland).

The lectotype was, selected, described and figured Beauvais 1963, p. 150, pl. 11 fig. 3. It was sectioned in 4 pieces and subsequently glued together in the sixties and unglued in nov. 2011. The longitudinal view is available in Beauvais 1963.

Classification

Description

Solitary subcylindrical corallum. Striated epitheca, no costae. Radial elements compact, free, cuneiform, curved according to the bilateral symmetry to sinuous. Distal edge steeply inclined with very small subhorizontal equal teeth or ridges. No palis. Strong bilateral symmetry marked by a cardinal septum longer and thicker than others. Two zoned endotheca with a wide marginarium made of big vesicles and an inner endotheca made of thin numerous and tight dissepiments. No columella, no synapticulae, Multilamellar thick pachythecal wall.

Remarks

Five nominal species in Jurassic only.
