Polyseris

Alloiteau, 1957, p. 321

Polyseris Alloiteau, 1957, p. 321 is a junior synonym (available and invalid), see Microphyllia Orbigny, 1849: 8.

Type Species

Latimeandra massiliensis de Fromentel, 1873, p. 449, pl. 106, fig. 2, pl. 107, fig. 2, pl. 108, fig. 2; Original Designation Alloiteau, 1957, p. 321

Type Specimen: Syntype; ; Not Traced; Unknown

Type Locality: Turonian (Figuiere, Bouches-du-Rhone) and Lower Santonian (Le Beausset, Var) of France.

The the set of syntypes of the type species consists of specimens from different locations and are housed at MNHN (Paris) under B17597 (Lower Santonian) and M03776 (Turonian), the latter of which includes numbers like 7100. Alloiteau (1957, p. 321) based the genus Polyseris on the specimen no. 7106, which might belong to the set of specimens under the inventory number M03776. In addition to their geographic and stratigraphic differences, the syntypes also seem to belong to different taxonomic groups. While the material that was used by Alloiteau (1957) seems to closely correspond to Microphyllia d'Orbigny, re-study by Baron-Szabo in 2000 and 2005 revealed that some other specimens of the set of syntypes are closely related to Morphastrea (e.g. no. 7100) or Meandrophyllia (specimens marked as M03776).
