Parasmiliopsis Alloiteau, 1957, p. 87 is a junior synonym (available and invalid), see Smilotrochus Milne Edwards and Haime, 1851, p. 58.
Type Species

Type Specimen: Lectotype; ; Not Traced; Unknown
Type Locality: Cenomanian of France (Le Mans, Sarthe).
The type material of the type species is housed at MNHN (Paris) under M03574. Under the same inventory number there are specimens that distinctly differ from the form chosen by Alloiteau (1957, p. 87, pl. 8, fig, 13) and belong forms of different suborders, e.g. Trochosmilia (compare Baron-Szabo, 2002, pl. 32, fig. 4; which had been put down as holotype following the inventory information that accompanied that specimen when Baron-Szabo studied the material in 1999).

Remarks
As previously indicated by Kuzmicheva (1987), the septal arrangment in Smilotrochus often shows a pseudo-dendrophyllid development (also compare Baron-Szabo, 2008, p. 80 ff.). In addition, their axial septal ends might terminate in claviform, paliform-like, and/ or irregularly trabecular extentions. Re-study of the (lecto-)type material of the type species of Parasmiliopsis (=the specimen that was described and illustrated by Alloiteau in 1957) by Baron-Szabo in 2009 revealed that it has skeletal structures that very closely correspond to those features. Therefore, its synonmy with Smilotrochus is suggested. Also see Remarks under Plesioparasmilia Alloiteau, 1952.
