Palaeocyathus fromenteli Alloiteau, 1956, Pal univ. n°86, fig. 1-2; Original Designation
Type Specimen: Holotype; MNHN M03524; Verified; Dry Preserved
Type Locality: Domerian (Lower Jurassic) of May sur Orne (Calvados; France)
Solitary discoid corallum. Epitheca weakly folded covering a little more than half of the basal face. Calice circular in outline. Radial elements are prominent, compact, straight costo-septa. Distal edge ornamented by some regular wide festoons corresponding to the variations in thickness. No palis but some detached columns. Hexameral symmetry easy to decipher especially with the external part of radial elements. Endotheca not observed. Columella formed by teeth fused to inner edges of S1 septa; other cycles show free septa. Wall parathecal or septothecal.
The external prominence of septa and general morphology distinguishes Palaeocyathus of other Liassic Stylophyllids
Presently only the holotype is known.
