The type species is best described by Cairns (1979).

Diagnosis
Corallum solitary, patellate or bowl-shaped, free; at least one species propagates by transverse division; septotheca thick and smooth (even porcellaneous) or costate; elongate costal spines (C1) occur in some species; septa strongly dentate; pali absent; columella papillose.
