Holotype is an anthocaulus stage, labeled as Paracyathus australiae; type species best described by Cairns and Parker (1992:41)
Classification
Diagnosis
Corallum asexually reproduces by transverse division, the anthocyathus cylindrical (discoidal) in shape; GCD up to 6 mm; theca imperforate; costae independent and granular, alternating in position with septa; septa hexamerally arranged in 3 cycles; 1 crown of 12 P1-2; columella papillose.
Comparisons
Differs from Idiotrochus by having granular costae and a cylindrical corallum.
Remarks
This genus and family was monographed by Cairns (1997), which included a phylogenetic analysis based on morphology; see also Cairns and Parker (1992). Monotypic.
