Type Locality: Kimmeridgian (Upper Jurassic) from Nattheim (Germany)
In "der Jura", Quenstedt (1857b) referred to Quenstedt 1852 p. 654 in which no available name is provided. The type species was figured subsequently in Quenstedt 1880, pl. 169. fig. 1-9, 14 where various subspecific names were created. The type material shows a rejuvenescence.
Description
Solitary trochoid corallum with a deep infundibuliform calice. Epitheca folded. Radial elements compact, free, subequal, rather constant in thickness, straight or curved. Distal edge with small regular teeth, and inner edge sometimes bent for lateral septa. Lateral faces apparently smooth, No palis. Microstructure unknown. Hexameral symmetry possible but difficult to decipher, bilateral symmetry marked by an elongated fossa. Endotheca with large dissepiments abruptly sloping down to the center. Columella absent, synapticulae absent. Cutting peripheral wall of unknown nature.
Remarks
Eleven Jurassic nominal specific or infraspecific taxa were created by Quenstedt.
