A. luteus Quoy and Gaimard, 1827, p. 187; Monotypy

Type Specimen: Holotype; ; Lost; Unknown

Type Locality: Recent: near starit of Gibralter

=A. calycularis (Pallas, 1766). Type specimens should be in Quoy and Gaimard collection in MNHNP, but not present in 1999. Type species best described by Zibrowius (1980)

Classification

Diagnosis

Calices arranged in cerioid, plocoid or phaceloid colonies; epitheca present; septa normally arranged; axial edges of septa coarsely dentate; columella discrete, and spongy; azooxanthellate.

Remarks

This genus and family were monographed by Cairns (2001), which included a phylogenetic analysis based on morphology. Monotypic, having a Recent and fossil record.
